Rookie Lifeguards Make a Splash
Students have been having a great time in our brand new Rookie Lifeguard Club! Pupils signed up for a new challenge this term and have been enjoying getting in to the life of a Rookie Lifeguard. The club takes place every Monday after school and everyone really enjoys swimming and learning lifesaving skills.
Since the start of the course, everyone has learned various safe entries, completed distance swims, survival stroke, lifesaving backstroke and treading water. They have most enjoyed, demonstrating simulated casualties (Non-panicking, Panicking and an Unconscious casualty.) Everyone demonstrated their own version of casualties which did take some time as pupils couldn’t stop laughing.
There was also the chance to play many games, giving the opportunity to learn lifesaving and survival skills, this included; Searching for sunken treasure (Blindfolded), Paddle Relay, Egg and Spoon, Swimming in Clothes Relay and Marco Polo (Blindfolded).
Over the coming weeks everyone will learn how to retrieve a casualty from the pool floor, tread water, coil a rope and throw to a casualty, demonstrate a rescue using different scenarios and work within time limits to quickly access and put a plan into action, ensuring their own safety.
The first six weeks have been fantastic, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
