National Careers Week
This week is the annual National Careers Week – a nationwide celebration of Careers education. Here at Southmoor, every week is a Careers Week! However, we do have some special activities taking place during the week to join the nation in celebrating Careers.
On Monday, we have a virtual assembly delivered to the whole school from Leanne Cahill, CEO of Bravissimo and Chancellor of Sunderland University – a former student of Southmoor School. On Tuesday, we welcome Channel 4 back to school for a special Q&A panel of industry experts with all Year 7 followed by a workshop with some students, in addition to the second part of the Year 12 Engineering project with Wates & Sunbelt Rentals. On Wednesday, some Engineering students have the opportunity to visit Unipres, who manufacture parts for Nissan. On Friday, we will link virtually with a school in Uganda to see how they are celebrating Careers Week.
During the week, there’s a Career Pathway competition to win Amazon gift vouchers, staff will be wearing special badges, and there will be a special competition over 6000 miles with Uganda with the winners announced live from on screen. There is more information about the week in this letter.
