Hola, Hallo & Hallå
In celebration of European Day of Languages on 25th September, Southmoor held its first ever European Week of Languages! Assemblies were hosted by MFL staff each morning about the importance of learning languages. A competition ran throughout the week where members of staff across the whole school have been speaking different languages in lessons and students noted down who spoke which language. On Tuesday, students in Year 11 went to Hill View Infants to teach German to Year 1 students. On Thursday we had 18 visiting MFL PGCE teachers from Newcastle University in school to deliver taster lessons to Years 7 and 8. Our students were able to learn words in Arabic, Swedish, Spanish, Catalan, Dutch and Japanese. Finally, we held an inter-form quiz on Friday morning across the whole school where students answered questions on what they had learned during the week.
The whole week has been a great celebration of different languages and cultures and also learning about the importance of diversity across the world.
