Weihnachten in Deutschland
In this second school visit to Germany, seventeen GCSE and A Level language students, embarked on a five day cultural, historic and culinary journey to the capital Berlin. After a short flight from Manchester, students checked in to their hotel in Schöneberg, before exploring the city’s numerous Christmas markets, where pupils got a taste of local crafts and foods and practised their German.
Over the course of their stay, the group took part in an orienteering challenge, a visit to the German Bundestag. Students saw parts of the old Berlin Wall, the famous Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie, to broaden their knowledge of German history. On the last evening, the group also enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant, where pupils rose to the challenge of ordering their food in German. All students were excellent ambassadors for Southmoor during the trip and everyone embraced the culture and surroundings in a fantastic and positive way.
