Welcome to Southmoor Academy
Welcome to Southmoor Academy. We are a large and successful 11-18 academy with a strong sense of community, aspiration and achievement. This is reflected in our motto ‘Aspire, Achieve, Enjoy’. Southmoor is one of the city’s highest performing non – faith academies and the lead sponsor within a Multi Academy Trust. Southmoor goes far beyond striving for academic excellence. It’s a school that supports personal development by providing our pupils with opportunities to explore and develop their own interests and talents. This may take the form of sport, creative arts, after school or lunchtime clubs, peer support, personal development or a wealth of regular educational visits as part of our extra – curricular commitment.
At Southmoor we pride ourselves on being a school with its heart in the community, we believe that if lessons are exciting and challenging, if young people are successful, if they are involved in their learning and in school life, then it will be the springboard to lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence.
At Southmoor our standards and expectations are high!
Our Vision Statement & Ethos
Vision:
We are a family of academies who share one vision: To provide the highest quality education for young people in the communities we serve. Our vision goes beyond our own Trust. We want to contribute to the broader regeneration of our region by empowering our students to have high aspirations, achieve excellent outcomes and enjoy learning.
Mission:
We will achieve our vision by being an excellent employer which ensures that all staff work together with high levels of moral integrity. We base every decision around one fundamental question: how will things improve for our young people as a result of this?
Values:
Value every member of our school community. We are proud to be inclusive.
All policies and procedures provide clarity of purpose and are consistently applied.
Learning within and beyond the classroom, is of high quality. We develop knowledge, skills and understanding, broaden horizons and inspire. We empower staff and students to demonstrate their own creativity, flare and passion for learning. Continual improvement is a moral imperative.
Understand that positive relationships are central to our success as a learning organisation. Our young people know that we work tirelessly in their best interests.
Expectations are high for all. Staff and students aspire to be the best they can now and in the future.
Success or failure for one represents success or failure for all.
Aspire: We have an unshakeable belief in our students and high aspirations for all, We work hard to build confidence so that our students share this belief and become successful adults who make positive contributions.
Achieve: Achievement of our pupils is our priority because we know that it improves lives and drives social mobility.
Enjoy: We want our students to enjoy learning, even when it is difficult. This builds confidence and character which in turn supports excellent achievement.
We offer a broad, deep and knowledge rich curriculum that is ambitious and designed so that pupils:
- Know More
- Do More
- Go Further
We have high expectations to support a calm, orderly learning environment. We expect our pupils to behave maturely, conduct themselves well and make a positive contribution to our school community. Our school rules and routines are build around the three basic expectations of being:
