As part of our drive to improve literacy across the curriculum, Year 7 students will receive a free book to take home and enjoy. Reading opens the door to early academic success, imparts a love of learning and leads to higher grades in every subject. Numerous studies have shown that strong oral language skills are the basis for literacy development. When children read they have greater general knowledge, expand their vocabulary and become more fluent readers. It is for these reasons that we continue to encourage our pupils to learn to love reading.
