Archaeological Investigations with Southmoor Scholars
Historian John Roxborough from Durham University joined Southmoor Scholars last week to talk about Archaeological Human Remains, and its uses as a as historical source. John shared his passion for history and his roles within The Museum of Archaeology, Oriental Museum and Botanic Gardens to bring the session to life.
Students learned about the importance of looking for what’s missing as much as investigating what you can see and the golden rule in archaeology ‘Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence’. Our scholars got to put their investigative skills to the test, applying what they learnt about identifying features of a skeleton, to understand how archaeologists and historians’ piece together evidence to build a picture of what life was like.
