Dr Mona Dixon Inspires Our Young Minds

On Friday afternoon, we were delighted to welcome into school inspirational public speaker Dr Mona Dixon. Dr Dixon was born in the USA and with her family lived on the streets and moved from one homeless shelter to another until she turned 13 years old. She was awarded the “National Youth of the Year Award” and over $100,000 in scholarships and honoured by President Barack Obama in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington DC. She was named one of the “Most Influential Black Women in America” alongside Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama, and she was appointed by President Obama as the youngest member of a U.S. Presidential Community Service Committee.
Now, Dr Dixon travels all over America and the world to speak to companies, schools, youth organisations and more and we were honoured to welcome Dr Dixon into school on Friday to deliver a powerful, inspirational and motivational message to our Year 8 students. This opportunity was made possible due to the strength and impact of the work SCAG (Sunderland Community Action Group) has delivered and SCAG is the only organisation to have been given such an opportunity.
