Year 8 Learning to Lead Through Sport

This term, our Year 8 Leadership Team has taken a dynamic approach to developing their leadership skills—through the power of sport!
The team has been actively involved in a workshops and practical sessions designed to explore what it means to be a leader both on and off the field. From setting up games for younger students to leading warm-ups and encouraging teamwork, these young leaders have discovered that leadership isn’t just about giving instructions—it’s about listening, supporting others, and leading by example.
Through activities like team challenges, sports officiating, and peer coaching, the students have learned key leadership qualities such as:
- Communication – giving clear instructions and listening to teammates
- Responsibility – taking charge of equipment and ensuring fair play
- Empathy – encouraging others and recognising different strengths
- Confidence – stepping up to lead even when it feels challenging
Their creativity, organisation, and enthusiasm shone through, and all the students had a fantastic time.
