Virtual Work Experience and Careers Explorers
Year 10 students had the opportunity to explore more about the world of work and to learn about possible future pathways with our first ever Virtual Work Experience and Careers Explorer days. These events took place over two days. On Day One, students took part in a carousel of different activities including: a CV writing workshop, creating their own Globalbridge careers profile, finding out about Apprenticeships, hearing about post-16 pathways from Newcastle College, Gateshead College and Springboard NE, visiting the Sixth Form at Southmoor, speaking to Year 12 students and researching possible future jobs and career pathways.
On Day Two, students learned more about employability skills from Skills Builder and were set a business challenge by international corporate law firm Gowling WLG. At the end of the day, groups of students pitched their solutions to Gowling WLG employees and students from Griffin 10C and Triton 10B were the overall winners for presentation and design. The students also had the opportunity to virtually hear from a former Southmoor student, Leanne Cahill, who is now CEO of the multinational retail company Bravissimo. It was an amazing opportunity to hear from a successful business leader who 30 years ago was in Year 10 at Southmoor. We are looking forward to working with Leanne in the future.
We hope that the two days has given students some inspiration to think about what they would like to do when they finish Year 11 next year.
