Northumbria Police On Online Safety
Our colleagues from Northumbria Police visited school to deliver an important message to all Years 8, 9 and 10 students: the dangers of sending and receiving indecent images. The Police discussed with students about the rising cases in the number of incidents of sexting, where someone receives a sexually explicit text, image, or video. They informed students about what they should do if they receive such an image but also the fact that it is illegal to make, take, distribute, or possess indecent images. The Police talked about the law with regards to Sexting and the consequences of what could happen should anyone send or possess an indecent image, which may include a criminal sentence or even being placed on the sex offenders register for life. With the rising use of more forms of social media, this issue is becoming more prevalent, and students are now aware of the dangers of such an action.
