Sporting Enrichment Returns to Southmoor

Last week saw the start of the PE departments extracurricular clubs and in true Sunderland fashion the heavens opened, and the rain was coming in sideways. This didn’t stop the students from coming and enjoying what was on offer. Girls football, Rugby and the Year 7 football trials all went ahead and were well attended. We had over 50 students brave the weather to try out for the team and have selected the first squad to play against St Aidans and Seaham this week (see a later article in this blog for how they got on). Football training is going to be every Thursday so please keep attending and working hard.

In the slightly more civilised setting of the new gym the Girls Netball club was well attended in preparation for upcoming fixtures. We also saw a return of the Boxing Club which is ran with the help of members of the SCAG team and a new Athletics Club which will be held every Thursday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the new Gym. Please note all our sporting clubs require students to wear their PE/Sports kit. See here for full guidance.

We look forward to updating you on the progress of these teams and the results of games as they come through.
