In this section
Southmoor students are expected to bring a minimum amount of equipment to each lesson. Equipment should be well maintained and kept safe in a pencil case. Your pencil case should contain the essential equipment you will need every day at school. Pupils must bring at least this equipment with them every day they are in school and keep it in good condition.

The required equipment for every day at Southmoor is:
- A Black Pen (x2)
- A Green Pen
- A Pencil
- A Ruler (15cm)
- A Pencil Sharpener
- An Eraser
- A highlighter pen of any colour
- A Pencil Case to hold all of the above
- A White Board Pen
- A Mini White Board Dry Eraser or Suitable Cloth
- A Casio model FX-83GT CW or FX-85GT CW Calculator
- Your lesson Timetable (To be issues at the start of the school year)
- A Gluestick (Must be non-toxic and solvent free)
- A Clear, Refillable, Plastic Water Bottle
- Your Yondr Phone Pouch (see below)
Please note: All of the above items may be purchased in our school shop at break times. A full price list can be found here.
It is highly recommended that you also bring:
- Colouring Pencils
- A simple wristwatch to help with time-keeping and punctuality
- A suitable bag to hold the above plus books and other equipment
Please note: Though this equipment can prove useful, it is not essential and will sometimes be supplied by the school when necessary. Sharp objects such as scissors must always be provided by the school. Glue (of a type not found in glue-sticks) will also always be provided when needed.
Pupils should not bring:
- Mobile Phones – Although we accept that a mobile phone is sometimes necessary for parent-pupil contact, it should be turned off during the school day and locked inside of your Yondr pouch. It should never be used at any point during the school day or on school premises. Phones will be confiscated by staff should students be seen using their phone or other connected device (see below for further details). From September 2026, phones will be required to be sealed within a secure mobile phone pouch.
- Smart Watches – These should also be turned off and locked inside of your Yondr phone pouch at the beginning of the day. These will be confiscated if they are seen (see below for further details).
- Headphones – (Wired or wireless). These should also turned off and locked inside your Yondr phone pouch just like mobile phones, these will be confiscated if they are seen (see below for further details).
- Tippex’ or eraser fluid.
- Scissors or any other sharp object.
- Permanent marker pens.
- Solvent based glue of any type
Please also note that the Academy will take no responsibility for any items brought into school that may become damaged, lost or stolen.
Yondr Phone Pouches
This year, our school will be using Yondr pouches to make our site phone-free!
Every student will be assigned a personal Yondr pouch and required to use it whilst at school. The Yondr pouch is considered school property, but it is your responsibility to bring your pouch with you to school every day and keep it in good working condition.
If you forget your phone pouch your phone will be confiscated and1 hour detention will be issued . If this happens on multiple occasions there will be additional consequences.
Confiscated Items
Confiscated items can be collected from Pupil Reception at the end of the school day.
Confiscated phones/smartwatches/earbuds will be held for the remainder of the school week and a parent will need to come into school in order to collect them. Two days in Inclusion will also be issued.
Should a student refuse to hand over a phone or other device then our pastoral staff will become involved and the incident will be reported home to parents and carers.
