Last week, we were proud to celebrate the achievements of our Year 7 and Year 8 students who have produced excellent work as part of the Achieve projects.
Year 7 projects were linked to their visit to Bamburgh, using the trip as a stimulus to explore place, history and landscape. Students demonstrated strong mastery of key knowledge and concepts, alongside thoughtful exploration through independent research and questioning. They then showed effective application by using what they had learned to create purposeful and well-structured outcomes rooted in a real place.
Year 8 projects focused on Sunderland and issues surrounding city-wide regeneration, encouraging students to engage with their local area and understand how places change over time. These projects required students to investigate challenges and opportunities facing the city, apply their understanding, and develop informed viewpoints about the future of Sunderland.
Across both year groups, the communication strand of Achieve is currently centred on developing oracy, and will allow students to talk about the work they have produced for their projects. Students are currently working hard, learning how to articulate ideas clearly, justify opinions, and engage in meaningful discussion, building confidence in speaking and listening as part of becoming self-regulated learners.
During assembly, certificates were awarded to recognise students whose projects exemplified the Achieve principles of mastery, exploration, application and communication. These awards celebrate not only high-quality final outcomes, but also the learning behaviours that support long-term success.
