Year 10 Students Step Into the World of Work

This week, the majority of our Year 10 students have been taking part in exciting work experience placements. They have spent this week with employerslearning about the world of work, future career opportunities and gaining important employability skills. Students have worked in a huge range of different sectors, with the top sectors including education, construction, manufacturing, skills training, healthcare sciences, retail & sales and sports & fitness.

A record number of organisations have hosted our students this week, including some employers taking multiple students such as Baltic Newcastle, Expert Technologies Group, Gentoo, Learning Curve, Nissan, Sunderland College, Sunderland Training and Education Farm, Unipres, University of Sunderland and many more. We have been delighted to already receive so much positive feedback from the employers – we are extremely proud of every single student! Students have been involved in all different activities both in the local area and beyond. At Southmoor, we strongly believe that work experience is an essential part of a young person’s education and we are delighted to give our students the opportunity to spend a week with an employer.  For those students that weren’t on placement there was a chance to take part in our Enterprise Challenge in school.

“The learners have been fantastic. Turning up on time and fully participating in each activity. Our Japanese training manager is with us at the moment and he sat in one of the sessions we delivered today and he was highly impressed with all the pupils and commented on how well they conducted themselves.”

Well done Year 10!
