Street Smart Art

Last school year, Southmoor Academy became an Arts Award Centre and as a pilot scheme, our KS3 Pathway pupils undertook an Arts Award qualification.  As part of their studies, pupils explored Street Art and learned about Frank Styles, a local graffiti artist, who they were also able to meet and interview as part of their research. They also took part in a Street Art Tour of Sunderland, which allowed them to see graffiti art close up.

The students then used their experiences to design their own street art and built a 3D model wall, on which they were able to apply their artwork to produce a final piece. For the final stage of the award, pupils then presented their work to the class.

All students successfully achieved their Explore Arts Award and received their certificates from Trinity College London, which were presented to them by Mrs Maw.
