SMA Remembers

Last week’s Aspire Theme of the Week was ‘Remembrance‘. During our annual Remembrance assemblies, Mrs Richardson spoke to students about the importance of Remembrance not only in the UK but also across the world around the theme of ‘Community’. When we think about Remembrance, it is not just thinking about the many people who we know have given their lives in conflict, but it is also those who are unknown and have never been identified, in addition to the many animals. During the assembly, students heard the Last Post being played to give a few moments of reflection, before one of our own Southmoor CCF cadets placed a wreath and gave a salute to the many former Southmoor students who have sadly given their lives in conflict.

In Aspire AM, students had the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Remembrance and the importance of taking a few moments each year on the 11th November, at the 11th hour, to pause and reflect. On Tuesday 11 November, at 11am, the whole school joined together with the rest of the nation to observe two minutes silence to mark Armistice Day.
