Shaping the City

Members of our Student Council took part in the State of the City Debate, at Sunderland City Hall Chambers. Organised by Sunderland Youth Voice, the event gave our young people a platform to discuss key issues affecting their lives.

The topics up for debate were Culture, Media and Sport; Health and Wellbeing; and Jobs, Training and Opportunities, highlighting students’ concerns about their community and future. The debate offered a valuable opportunity for our students to build confidence, share opinions, and help shape Sunderland Youth Council’s next campaign. At the end of the day, student representatives from across the city voted.  ‘Jobs and Training for Young People‘ won the vote by a great margin and will be the focus area for Sunderland Youth Council for the next two years.
