Scholars Seek Out Northumbria

On Monday Scholars had their first University Visit, building on the fantastic workshops we’ve been having in school. Northumbria University gave us a very warm welcome and it was brilliant to be on Campus during Winter Graduations, our students loved seeing Northumbria students celebrating in their graduation gowns – brilliantly aspirational. We heard about the different routes students can take to their own university graduation learning about options of sixth forms and colleges, gap years and the variety of ways to get a degree face-to-face in university, online options and through work with Apprenticeships. Then got to explore the campus with a tour.

We had an exploration of the careers in Law from Kayleigh Richardson Associate Professor, Family Law Solicitor and Tribunal Judge, who inspired our students with stories of her own journey. We got a good understanding of the roles of Solicitors and Barristers and the skills needed to work in the fields. Our last session saw student’s taking an enterprise apprentice challenge, exploring the skills set of students, bidding for equipment and presenting their final ideas.  Students represented Southmoor brilliantly asking fantastic thoughtful questions and getting involved in all aspects of the day. Huge thank you to Northumbria for supporting Scholars and Southmoor once again.
