Introducing Our Student Spotlight

At Southmoor, we encourage our students to strengthen their confidence, resilience, and

independence, to act with integrity, and support others.

We are introducing a new ‘Student Spotlight’ feature in our weekly blog, to celebrate the amazing achievements of our students, and would love to hear from you.

Complete the simple form at the link below, to share an example of something you’ve done in or out of school, which demonstrates your confidence, resilience, independence and honesty.

Examples could include:

  • Taking part in a school club, team, or performance and showing commitment or leadership
  • Overcoming a challenge in a subject you found difficult and improving your work
  • Helping to organise an event, fundraiser, or group project
  • Supporting or mentoring other students
  • Speaking up in class, sharing ideas, or leading a discussion
  • Taking responsibility, such as being a prefect or student leader
  • Volunteering in your community or helping others outside school
  • Working well in a team to achieve a shared goal

For our very first entry of the spotlight we have the 40 students in Years 8 and 9 who are getting ready for their volunteering visit to Kenya in 2027 through our partnership with African Adventures and the Foundation of Light. Students have been tasked with fundraising as much of the costs of the trip as possible over the next 12 months.

The volunteers have already started this with many different activities already taking place. Scarlett and Ivy took part in a 9-hour sponsored bike ride (the flight time from UK to Kenya) and a raffle at their local gym and between them they have raised just over £1400 – incredible work!  Well done to Scarlett and Ivy.

Lots of parents and students met at the Beacon of Light on Sunday, just before the Tottenham Hotspur home game, to discuss potential fundraising opportunities on the match days. Please look out for our students on some of the final home match days of the season, including the game on Saturday 9th May at 3pm against Manchester United, as they lead activities in the FanZone with fundraising opportunities. There are many more opportunities coming up both inside and outside of school as students embark on their fundraising adventures!
