This past weekend, Mr Wood, Miss Moran, Miss Bliss and Miss Payne took 44 pupils to France and Belgium for the annual Battlefields Trip. Pupils were given an insight into the history of WWI, the topography and the damage that was done during the war. Pupils visited Albert in France, focussing on the Somme region and the Battle of the Somme. Here they visited places such as Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval Monument and Wellington Quarry.
They then visited Yrpes, focussing on the three battles that took place during WWI there. They visited Tynecot Commonwealth Cemetary, the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world and the Passchendaele Museum during the day. On Sunday evening pupils were able to witness the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. We had the privilege to have two of our pupils take part in the ceremony, laying a wreath on behalf of the school. The pupils were fantastic during this service and made us very proud.
On the way back, British Border Force complemented staff on how well behaved and well-mannered the pupils were when waiting in the queues for passport checks, even members of the public had fantastic feedback for us during this time. What a privilege it was to be part of this amazing trip! Thank you to all pupils and staff who took part.
