Great Success at National Careers Week 2024
We launched National Careers Week on Monday last week with a special virtual assembly with Year 11 in the Hall and the rest of the school watching on Teams. For the launch, we were delighted to hear from Leanne Cahill, CEO of Bravissimo and Chancellor of Sunderland University – a former Southmoor student. Leanne talked about her career pathway so far and how she has achieved her current position. She also gave advice to students based on her own experiences of being a student at Southmoor and as CEO of a major retail organisation. For other assemblies, Mr Wareham talked to students about the ever-changing world of work, thinking about which jobs are being replaced and what type of jobs will be available in the future. It is also important to think about transferable skills to adapt to any situation in the future.
On Thursday, we were delighted to link up live once again with Kawungeera Primary School in Uganda as a follow-up to a similar event last year. It is amazing to hear from students over 4000 miles away. During form activities, students had the opportunity to explore different types of professions and how many people are in different jobs throughout their lives and do not necessarily stay in the same job.
