14 of our Year 8 girls had the opportunity to visit the National E-Sports Performance Centre to participate in a Stemettes x Lenovo event. After learning about what STEAM is, the girls received a keynote speech from Danielle Phillips, of the North East Combined Authority, and had the opportunity to network with students from other schools and technology ambassadors working with Lenovo. They also managed to tour the E-Sports facilities – and what a fantastic facility it is to have on our doorstep! Teams were then formed and the girls took part in a challenge: to design a new sporting innovation.
The designs were then modelled impressively using 3D modelling software, tinkerpad. Each team then presented their ideas and not one, but two, of our groups won! Well done to Ava, Ava and Olivia for receiving the “people’s vote” for their “Accuracy Reality Body Suit” and a HUGE well done to Lola, Freya and Paige for their “Ultra Sweetie Tube” which won Judge’s choice!
