Exploring Animal Rights

Students at our school recently had the opportunity to take part in engaging sessions with Animal Aid, one of the UK’s most established and respected animal rights organisations.

Year 12 students attended a session led by Dene Stansall, focusing on the ethics of horseracing. The session encouraged students to think critically about animal welfare, ethical treatment, and the responsibilities humans have towards animals.

Meanwhile, Year 7 students explored animal rights and protection laws in a separate session led by Debbie Pattersonfrom Animal Aid. These sessions provided a valuable chance for younger students to learn about the legal and moral frameworks in place to protect animals, while fostering discussion on compassion and responsibility.

Animal Aid, founded in 1977, aims to promote rights, respect, and compassion for all animals through education, advocacy, and public engagement. Our students found the sessions thought-provoking and inspiring, highlighting the importance of ethical thinking and awareness in our daily lives.
