Recently week, our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh group headed to County Durham for two exciting practice walks on Tuesday and Thursday, with a clear focus on developing our map-reading skills.
From the moment we arrived, there was a real sense of enthusiasm and determination across the group. Equipped with maps, compasses, and plenty of energy, we set out to put our navigation skills to the test. The main aim of the day was to build confidence in reading maps accurately, and it certainly kept us on our toes! There were moments where we had to stop, think carefully, and work together to figure out the correct route—but these challenges made the experience even more rewarding. It was great to see everyone getting involved, sharing ideas, and supporting each other.
Overall, both practice walks were a fantastic success. Not only did we make great strides in our navigation skills, but we also strengthened our teamwork and resilience. The enthusiasm shown by all Year 10 students was brilliant, and we are now feeling much more prepared and excited for the full expedition ahead!
