Mrs Bliss was honoured to represent the school at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award 70th Anniversary Celebration Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Friday 22nd May.
It was a wonderful day and a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young people involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The weather was wonderfully warm, and the Palace gardens provided a stunning setting for the event, bringing together participants, volunteers and supporters from across the country to recognise 70 years of life-changing opportunities and achievement.
During the afternoon, guests heard from a number of inspiring speakers, including former England goalkeeper David Seaman, Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, and even Vikkstar from The Sidemen (a Silver Award holder). Attendees also had the privilege of hearing from His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, who spoke about the lasting impact of the Award and the opportunities it provides for young people to develop confidence, resilience and valuable life skills.
It was also incredibly inspiring to hear stories from young people who had completed their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, sharing the challenges they had overcome and the skills they had developed through their experiences. Their determination, commitment and personal growth were a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when young people step outside their comfort zones and embrace new opportunities.
Many recent Gold Award achievers were in attendance, and it was wonderful to celebrate their outstanding accomplishments. The event recognised not only the successful completion of the Award, but also the perseverance, leadership, service and sense of adventure that these young people had demonstrated throughout their journeys.
The celebration was a powerful reminder of the positive difference the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to make in the lives of young people. Mrs Bliss was proud to represent the school at such a special occasion and left feeling inspired by the achievements, ambition and enthusiasm of everyone in attendance. Especially as we look towards our two Silver Expeditions this week and next!
