Creative Careers with Channel 4

On Monday and Tuesday last week, we were delighted to welcome back into school, Michael Longhi from Channel 4, to deliver workshops with all of our Year 7 students about Creative Careers. Michael started with an introductory assembly on Monday morning where he talked about the many roles that are available within TV and Film which are not necessarily just actors – roles such as Editor, Grip, Location Manager and many more. Students also discovered some fun facts about Channel 4, such as the ovens on ‘Bake Off’ are tested everyday of filming by baking a Victoria Sponge! Michael then delivered the ‘Have A Go’ workshop to all Year 7 classes during Monday and Tuesday, where students had the opportunity to use their creative skills to produce a pitch for a new TV programme.

Finally, the whole year group came together in the Hall, for a Q&A session with some very special visitors both in person and online. We were delighted to welcome in person: James, Managing Director of Motif Pictures and Ian from New World Designs. Joining us online was: Kieran (social video editor), David (Studio director), Aneka (presentation editor) and Shelley (E4 and More4 Scheduler). This is the third year that we have been part of the 4Schools programme which means that every student in Years 7, 8 and 9 have now had the opportunity to take part in the Creative Careers Workshops with Channel 4.
