Over the weekend, a group of students visited Derwent Hill for an action-packed residential experience. After arriving on Friday, students took part in orienteering in the surrounding woodlands, using torches to navigate in the dark and locate checkpoints with their maps.
On Saturday, students braved the cold for a gorge walking session, climbing slippery rocks and making their way through the water towards the waterfall at the top of Honister Ghyll. Later, they headed onto Derwentwater for canoeing, racing between islands across the lake. In the evening, students enjoyed a walk into Keswick to explore the town and pick up souvenirs.
Sunday brought more challenges, with one group hiking up High Rigg in heavy rain, while others tackled the high ropes course, including the Death Swing, Gladiator challenge, and See-Saw. A special mention goes to Theo, who showed great courage in overcoming his fear of heights on the Death Swing. After lunch, the groups swapped activities, with many more students pushing themselves to take on the high ropes. Meanwhile, others enjoyed a campfire experience, roasting marshmallows and learning how to light a fire using a flint.
Following a weekend full of adventure, teamwork, and memorable experiences, students returned to Southmoor with plenty of stories to share.
