This week, the majority of our Year 10 students have been taking part in exciting work experience placements. They have spent this week with employers learning about the world of work, future career opportunities and gaining important employability skills. Students have worked in a huge range of different sectors, with the top sectors including education, construction, manufacturing, skills training, healthcare sciences, retail & sales and sports & fitness.
A record number of organisations have hosted our students this week, with 207 students out of school, including some employers taking multiple students such as Foundation of Light, Expert Technologies Group, Sunderland College, International Community Organisation of Sunderland, Unipres, Not A Statistic Northeast, and so many more, including many of the local primary schools. We have been delighted to already receive so much positive feedback from the employers – we are extremely proud of every single student! Students have been involved in all different activities both in the local area and beyond.
At Southmoor, we strongly believe that work experience is an essential part of a young person’s education and we are delighted to give our students the opportunity to spend a week with an employer. For those students that weren’t on placement there was a chance to take part in our Enterprise Challenge in school.
