Welcome Back to Southmoor

On Friday morning, we hosted our second ever Southmoor Alumni Breakfast. This event was to mark National Careers Week which took place earlier this month. During this event, we had around 50 former students from Southmoor over the last 60 years come back into school – many for the first time since leaving! During the first part of the morning, our visitors networked with each other and staff in school with a light breakfast. After this, our Year 7 students came to meet all of our visitors and take part in a very exciting speed-networking event. Year 7 students had the opportunity to ask questions about what the visitors had done since leaving Southmoor and what they do now.

Our Alumni were also able to give advice to our current students to inspire the next generation. We were delighted to welcome so many former students into school from a huge range of backgrounds. We were also delighted to welcome Simon Thompson, who left us in 1984, and has held many executive positions within many big organisations, including being the former managing director of the Test and Trace App during the COVID-19 pandemic, former CEO of Royal Mail, and is currently CEO of a cargo drone company. Simon generously gave up his time to also speak to our Year 12 Business and Economic students during the morning where he talked about not limiting your ambition.
