Four Southmoor Academy CCF cadets have just returned from RAF Topcliffe, in North Yorkshire, after an exhilarating flight in the Viking glider!
The Viking, which is launched into the air using only a winch, is but one of the many RAF aircraft that cadets can fly in. Cameron of Year 10 said: “You can’t quite believe how fast and how steep you are launched into the air, but it’s a feeling like no other!”.
Flying and Gliding is unique to the RAF Air Cadets, with opportunities for flight available throughout the year alongside amazing exclusive experiences such as archery, camps, mountain biking and paddlesport. Whilst the activities are exclusive, membership isn’t – the CCF is open to all Southmoor pupils aged 12+ and will soon open its doors for a new intake, be sure to look out for more information soon!
If you’d like to learn more in the meantime, come along to the CCF Section HQ in Southmoor House from 15:35 on a Monday afternoon.
