SMSC Theme of the Week

This week’s SMSC theme was Restart a Heart and First Aid to mark the annual Restart a Heart Day which takes place on Saturday 16 October. We were delighted to welcome into school Sergio Petrucci from the Red Sky Foundation, a local charity who have raised over £480,000 to support the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. Sergio talked to students in years 8 to 10 about the importance of learning how to perform basic CPR in order to help anyone who is suffering from a cardiac arrest and that their actions can save lives. Sergio was able to demonstrate how to perform CPR and also discussed the importance of the work of his Foundation. We hope to work with Sergio in the future to support this amazing cause. In addition, in Form Activities, students learned about how to perform basic CPR in times of Covid.
