A number of Southmoor pupils represented Sunderland Schools at the Durham County Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium on Saturday. All the pupils gave it their all and were rewarded with some fantastic performances, including two winners.
Carter McQue won the Junior (Yr8/Yr9) boys High Jump with a clearance of 1.67m. Jacob Waterston was victorious in the Inter (Y10/Y11) Boys Long Jump with a 5m+ leap. Joe Willis was runner- up in the Inter Boys 1500m, all three were selected to represent Durham county in Saturday’s inter county fixture against Cumbria, Cleveland and Northumberland at Gateshead International Stadium. William Young, Harper Scott-Cousins and Carter McQue were also part of Sunderland’s silver medal winning 4x100m relay teams. Anna Barszczewska also competed in the High Jump.
To cap off a great day in the sun, our very own Carter McQue was even interviewed by ITV news which was broadcast on Saturday’s local news bulletin. Well done to all of our students who took part in a fantastic day of competitions.
