SCAG Still Going Strong in School

Sunderland Community Action Group, with whom we work closely in school, were once again an approved provider of the Sunderland Council and Together for Children HAF programme over the recent Christmas period. The Youth and Community based project saw record numbers of young people from the surrounding area attending.  These free sessions are based on improving and encouraging positive lifestyle choices through healthy eating, exercise and social interaction. Each young person received a free healthy meal, fruit and soft drinks throughout the day.
After the new year SCAG have continued to run lunch time and afterschool provision which children from Year 7 to sixth form access on a daily basis.
Across the weekly SCAG programme, their qualified Youth Work team are on hand daily in the Youth Hub (arts and drama block) offering issue-based support to students. Their winter activities programme is also in full swing where we’re are offering young people the chance to be take part in outdoor and indoor football coaching sessions, pool tournaments, PlayStation and Xbox computer gaming. They also have a new “learn to count” darts tournament every Thursday, a table football league, as well as themed arts and crafts. All the sessions are free and take place each lunch time and each night straight after school.
