This week has been British Science Week. Science Week is an exciting time for students to dive deep into the wonders of the natural world and to understand how we can make a positive impact on our planet. In 2025, the theme “Change and Adapt” encourages us to explore the power of change, how we can adapt to new challenges, and how we can help protect our environment through innovative solutions. Students also found out about a UCL poster competition that they can get involved in, helping the scientists at University College London come up with new ways to maintain clean air in public spaces, please see Mrs Oliver-Orr in B6 if you need more information, and to enter your poster!
During Science Week, Year 5 and 6 pupils from Grangetown Primary visited Southmoor Academy and had a unique opportunity to explore the world of renewable energy resources, fossil fuels, and climate change, while developing essential engineering skills. Through interactive activities they designed their very own wind turbine, helping them to better understand the technologies that help us transition to a sustainable future, whilst at the same time understanding that engineers have to change and adapt prototypes before producing a final product.
