This morning, we were thrilled to welcome Lewis Atkinson, the Member of Parliament for Sunderland Central, for his first visit since taking his seat in the House of Commons following last year’s general election. Lewis’ predecessor, Baroness Elliot, was a familiar face at Southmoor, and we are hopeful that Mr. Atkinson will equally enjoy engaging with our students.
During his visit, MP Atkinson toured the school, guided by members of our School Council, and met with our senior leadership team. He then joined our Sixth Formers and Student Council members for a lively Q&A session, where students raised pertinent questions about issues affecting today’s youth in Sunderland, including the cost of living, climate change, and access to affordable education.
We hope MP Atkinson enjoyed his time with us today, and we look forward to welcoming him again soon!
