Recently, sixty-four excited pupils and a team of staff set off on an unforgettable trip to Berlin. Over several packed days, we explored some of the city’s most significant historical sites, bringing our classroom learning to life. We stood where history once hung in the balance at Checkpoint Charlie, walked beneath the grand arches of the Brandenburg Gate, and spent time reflecting at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
A visit to the Reichstag building offered a fascinating look at Germany’s government building, while the Berlin Wall Memorial helped us imagine what the divided city once felt like. We also explored a museum dedicated to life in former East Germany, gaining insight into the everyday realities behind the Iron Curtain. Our evenings were just as memorable. We soaked up the festive atmosphere of Berlin’s famous Christmas markets—sampling treats, buying souvenirs, and enjoying the magical lights. A particular highlight was ascending the TV Tower, rising 203 metres above the city for stunning views across Berlin.
