Training Tomorrow’s Talent

A group of enthusiastic Year 11 students from Southmoor Academy recently enjoyed an unforgettable visit to Durham University, where they took part in a series of exciting sports taster sessions designed to challenge and inspire the next generation of athletes.

The highlight of the day was an exclusive master class in Durham University’s impressive indoor rowing tank, where students were able to test their endurance and technique in a truly elite training environment. This was followed by a high-energy strength and conditioning session in the university’s state-of-the-art gym, giving students a real insight into what it takes to train at the highest level.

The visit marks the exciting beginning of a new partnership between Southmoor Academy and Durham University, aimed at supporting and developing sports students who choose to continue their journey at Southmoor Academy Sixth Form. This collaboration will open doors to expert coaching, aspirational facilities, and invaluable experiences within a world-class sporting environment.

Students returned inspired, motivated, and more determined than ever to pursue their sporting ambitions. With opportunities like this now on the horizon, the future is looking incredibly bright for aspiring athletes at Southmoor.
