Love for Languages
We recently saw the second European Week of Languages at Southmoor. Each day MFL teachers delivered assemblies outlining the importance and relevance in learning a language. All teachers were encouraged to speak in a foreign language to their classes and there was a treasure hunt around school where students searched for the names of different foods in foreign languages. On Friday pupils from Year 7, 8 and 9 swapped their normal language lesson for a taster lesson in a range of different languages including Russian, Japanese, Mandarin and Swedish/Norwegian. These lessons were delivered by trainee language teachers from Newcastle University. Year 6 students from Grangetown Primary also got involved as part of our growing links between the MFL department and the primary school. Ending with our inter-form quiz based on all things to do with languages. It was a fantastic week to celebrate diversity and cultures of different countries around the world.
